HIV/STDS: H.I.V. a preventable disease, is the acronym for human immunodeficiency virus which weakens a person’s immune system by destroying important cells that fight disease and infection. Effective HIV prevention interventions have been proven to reduce HIV transmission. This begins with knowing your HIV status by being tested. No effective cure exists for HIV. But with proper medical care, HIV can be controlled. HIV disproportionately affects African Americans, Hispanics/Latinos and MSM of all races. These populations are more likely to contract HIV than others due to various factors, including their sex partners, their risk behaviors, and where they live.
